What is studying abroad?
Studying abroad is an opportunity for students to move to another country while still continuing their education. Students can do this as early as their high school years all the way through undergraduate, masters, and doctorate degrees.
Students can choose to study abroad for as little as a week or two and stay as long as a year or sometimes even longer!
In our opinion, a semester abroad is ideal as it is long enough to truly get immersed in the culture, become conversational in the language, create a routine and build true relationships abroad. It also is enough time to be able to take trips from the location. For example, if studying in a country in Europe, a semester abroad leaves time to see more of the country or even venture to other countries!
Is studying abroad truly a possibility?
As we said earlier, costs, timing, internships, visas, language barriers – there can (seem to) be tons of impediments!
I never imagined studying abroad as part of my future. If you foresee studying abroad being part of yours, great! You are a few steps ahead of where I was.
Studying abroad didn’t seem feasible to me until I had someone explain to me that not only is it feasible but it could actually save me money and help me receive more credits than I would have if I stayed in the U.S. at my university! Sounds crazy, but it’s true.
